17th June: Margaret Explores New Worlds

“Everyone chases after happiness, not noticing that happiness is right at their heels.”

Bertolt Brecht quotes (German poet and playwright, 1898-1956)
Editors' reminder:

Margaret Linehan and her husband are undertaking operation transportation in order to raise money for Pieta house.
This charity relies 90% on fundraising efforts to support their work providing free services to help those engaged in self-harm or feeling suicidal.

So if you haven't done so already: Please donate generously on their fundraising page: at http://www.mycharity.ie/event/operationtransportation2014/.

So far I'm the only one who has given a dime- so please donate whatever you can. Every little helps!

 Margaret Writes:

Day 4 Operation Transportation

Another fabulous morning for a cycle to work, and I heard on the radio that it is going to be the hottest day of the year.
I decided to wear a sundress to keep cool on the bike, so when I arrived at work, I was greeted by 'the best dressed cyclist in Cork'!  A great start to the day.

Now you too know where to find
Bishopstown Pitch and Putt course!

I cycled home in the evening, and it was still really warm.  I stopped off at Pieta House to introduce myself and let them know that Pieta House is our chosen charity.  Got a great tour around the house, amazing facility and really depending on donations.  Glad we have chosen this as our charity.

Decided to head out on our bikes again at 8.00pm, this time with no particular destination in mind.  We headed through the grounds of Cork University Hospital, then we meandered through various estates in Bishopstown and ended up outside Bishopstown Pitch and Putt Club.  I never even knew it existed!

Opposite the club, we found a really nice path for cycling and walking. So, we turned right and went up a very steep hill before coming out in Rossbrook Estate on the Model Farm Road.  Next time, we will turn left to see where we will arrive.  This is a great bonus with the bikes as we can cover lots of ground and it is like an adventure each time as we never know where we will end up.

Really enjoying cycling in this heatwave.  Definitely no need for unsightly rain trousers!

Editor's Footnote:

The cartoon below summarises the two different takes on cycle-wear. As the artist points out underneath there is probably no wrong or right way to dress- just different cloaks for different folks!
"There are many kind of cyclists (actually, there are no such thing as a “cyclist”, its just about a person on a bike -and you chose how and why you want to ride.)"
